Artifacts for the Grange Museum Boone Co. Il.

During the 2015 Boone County Fair increasing interest for the Museum has made me very happy. I just love it when a community comes together to support preservation of history through artifacts and family history. These are a few new items that have been donated by the Banks family.

Guests during Boone County Fair

Friends,
Well as the 2015 Boone County Fair came to a close we had 168 guests at our Grange Museum that signed our book. I can thank everyone enough for all the compliments on our Museum displays.

We have more families that are going to share more artifacts and photos.

I want to thank Vintage Wings and Wheels for providing the display cases, Boone County Historical Museum for pictures and Ida library for helping with copies and the use of their files on Boone County Granges and Beverly Peacock Smith for sharing some very nice articles.

A big thank you to all the volunteers that helped.

Can’t wait until next year!

Sincerely,
Sherry Hicks

Update on today’s visitors

Hi,
We had another great day answering the all popular question, what is Grange!

Great responses to our answers all enjoyed the history lesson.

Nice place to take a break from the heat!

Grange Museum

We have had so many great visitors so far. We had visitors from Winnebago and Marengo Granges. So pleased they took time out to find us.

We have had more artifacts given to us, and more to come.

It’s Boone County Fair Time!!

August 11 – 16, 2015 at the Boone County Fairgrounds, Belvidere, IL.

You know what that means…..yep, kinda hard to catch up with of our busy County Line Grangers!  It’s a very exciting time for us since, in addition to making sure we have all the ingredients for our awesome chicken dinners, we are scrubbing, painting and doing a bit of renovation in the kitchen and dining area.

Rest in the shade and feed that hungry family for a great price and check out our improvements.  Not just a fresh coat of paint, we made it much more user friendly to insure your dinner is hot and delicious!!

County Liners enjoy what we do so be sure to say hello and ask one of us about our Grange and how you can join in on the fun!  How will you recognize us? All County Line Grangers have a Badge proudly displaying County Line Grange #1751 with our name.

Another exciting project? The Grange Museum! It’s our little known jewel tucked away in the middle of the fairgrounds.  Often stumbled upon by fair goers wondering ‘what’s that little building?’ Open the door, feel the coolness of the air conditioner and find all sorts of interesting items showing the history of the Grange’s, not just Boone County, but other regions of Illinois that have kindly shared their mementos with us.  It’s with great honor we have been entrusted to display these items and share with our friends and patrons of the fair.  It is truly a privilege we don’t take lightly!

In order to help preserve these historical treasures one of our newest members (with long time family connections) to County Line Grange, Sherry Hicks, has graciously taken on the challenge of helping us get our museum ‘up to snuff’.  Sherry brings many years experience in historical preservation, a love of history and a contagious smile that warms a Granger’s heart!  We are very grateful to have her join our Grange and help us educate the public on the wonderful world of a Granger! We’ll be posting some photos soon so you can follow our progress.

Did you know you can find County Line Grangers at nearly every venue at the fair?  You may know us for grilling up our famous chicken dinners, but did you know we join our fellow Grangers of Boone County all around the fair?  You can find us helping out any group that needs an extra set of hands.  From Tractors to animals, in the Reed (one room) school house, the Grange Museum and we might even helping you find a parking spot or giving a lift to those in need.

As I’m sure you know, Community service isn’t free so to help replenish our coffers to continue our mission we’re selling raffle tickets.  You know how we love to help those in need! Tickets are $5.00 each; 5 for $10.00 or 20 for $20.00. Drawing will be on Friday Dec. 4th, during Belvidere Home Town Christmas. Tickets go on sale at the fair so be sure to stop one of us to get yours before we run out.

1st prize $300.00 Gift Card from Country Side Meats

2nd prize $150.00 Gift Card from Country Side Meats

3rd prize $50.00 Gift Card from Country Side Meats

Imagine what an awesome summer grill out event you can throw!  Sure would come in handy for those holiday visitors. Don’t worry, if you don’t have freezer space a few of our Grangers are happy to lend a hand ; )

As you can imagine, with all the activity we’ve had to reschedule our monthly meeting to Thursday August 20th.  Come check us out.  Say hello to one of us a we’ll be happy to get you the details. Meet once a month and show up to lend a hand when and where you can.  We’re a happy bunch, all ages, professions and interests. But what ties us together is a passion for community, to help those in need and educate the public on the ways of the Granger.

See you at the Fair!

February’s Burr

County Liner’s braved the cold and came together for our February meeting with good cheer and rosy cheeks. We welcomed visitors Lyle and Patti Lee and five others (not naming until I have their permission : ).
What have we been up to this month? We delivered Valentines to residents at Northwoods, Maple Crest, and Park Place nursing homes and even sent some off to our heroes at VA Hospitals. We had a great time at BOCO and the Pomona Chili Dinner and after lively discussion with seeds of planning we are getting geared up for our March events. Are you hungry? Shake your winter blues and get out of the house! Join us for a satisfying hot meal for a great cause. Come join us for our Spaghetti Dinner benefitting 4H Food Stand! March 14, 4-7pm. at the Belvidere V.F.W. Yummy!

Tis the season

Are you wondering where we’ve been? Well, County Liners have been busy doing what Grangers are known for, out serving the community! We’ve dished up hot meals to hundreds, made a float and lead a parade, rang the bell for Salvation Army, delivered a Christmas tree and presents to a family in need, visited nursing homes, checked up on neighbors, elderly and those needing some holiday cheer. All in the midst of visiting friends and family, the Holidays and oh yes, bundling up for frosty weather! Are you tired yet? Well, we’re not 🙂 we’re just getting started!

Boone County Fair

786 Meals,  1000 lbs of Chicken, were served in just 6 1/2 hours! County Line Grangers put on their aprons and smiles, rolled up their sleeves, and served up delicious chicken dinners to hungry fair goers. Working together with our fellow LeRoy Grangers everything moved along like clockwork. What a team effort! People started lining up at 10:30 for the 11am opening. First for lunch and back again for dinner! It takes many hours and many hands working together to pull this off and we want to thank everyone for coming out, volunteering and supporting us in all our efforts. Here’s to another successful season! 786 Meals were served in just 6 1/2 hours!
